Use this page to view information about virtually every reported fatality and injury that occurred on roads in Great Britain in the period 2000 to 2010 as a result of a collision involving a motor vehicle. Enter a place name into the search box and then use the mouse and buttons to pan and zoom. Use the 'full screen' button in the top-right corner of the map to make the map larger or smaller. Use the 'key' button in the top-left corner to open or close the key.

Information is provided showing those killed, seriously injured and slightly injured as well as mode of transport. For fatalities additional information is available giving the person's (or age band since 2009), gender and the year in which the crash took place. Zoom in to see more details. Where information is not available fields are left blank. There are a very small number of errors in the data resulting in, for example, incorrect locations. We have removed any data with coordinates that are obviously inaccurate; however ITO World provide no guarantee of the accuracy of the data.

This web service was released prior to the 2011 World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims and Road Safety Week.

If you work for a national media agency and would like some higher resolution exports of particular areas please contact ITO World.

Feel free to take screen grabs and reproduce them in any medium, including print, web and within broadcasts. There is no fee, the only requirements are that the maps carry the same credits as are included on the maps on this website and that the mapping is not used to try to identify individuals concerned.

about the mapping data

Casualty data is based on Stats19 data collected by the police and made available through the Economic and Social Data Service (ESDS) and the UK Data Archive. The data is Crown copyright. Unfortunately there is currently no data available for Northern Ireland.

Base mapping tiles and search facilities for Road Casualties UK are provided courtesy of MapQuest based on mapping data from OpenStreetMap and contributors. It is available under a Creative Commons licence (cc-by-sa 2.0).

The information provided within these maps should not be used to identify the individuals concerned.
